From Answers to Percentages

  1. 1

    Each statement leans one way

Every statement in the bank sits on one axis and leans to one of its two poles. Agreeing with a statement that leans to Federal moves you toward Federal; agreeing with one that leans to Unitary moves you toward Unitary.

  2. 2

    Answers carry weight

Strongly agree counts 2, Agree 1, Partially agree 0.5, Neutral 0, and the disagree answers count the same amounts the other way.

  3. 3

The axis total becomes a percent

The total on each axis is divided by the most it could reach with the statements you got, then placed on a 0 to 100 scale. 50 is the exact middle; the two poles always add up to 100.

Every Label on the 12 Axes

Each axis has seven labels. The label depends on your percent toward the first pole: above 90, above 75, above 60, 40 to 60, 25 to 40, 10 to 25 and below 10.

How the Closest Match Is Picked

Your 12 percentages are compared with each ideology, country and figure profile. The gap on each axis is averaged over all 12, and the smallest average gap is your closest match. A match of 90% means your scores sit 5 points from that profile on average, and 0% means 50 points or more.

12 Axes Results Explained: Common Questions

Why did my result change when I took it again?

Each run of the 36 and 60 versions draws different statements from the bank, and a few borderline answers can move an axis across a label line. The 240 version changes least.

What does 50% on an axis mean?

Your answers balanced out on that axis, so it shows the middle label, such as Centrist or Neutral.
