What Objectivism Stands For
Objectivism was developed by the Russian American novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand, mainly through her novels The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) and essays such as The Virtue of Selfishness. It holds that reality exists independently of minds, that reason is humanity's only guide, that rational egoism is the right moral code and that laissez-faire capitalism is the only just system. Rand was an atheist and opposed religion, altruism as a moral duty and collectivism of every kind. The Ayn Rand Institute continues her work. Compared with Right-Libertarianism, Objectivism is a full philosophy, and Rand rejected the libertarian label. Compared with Anarcho-Capitalism, it insists on a government with police, courts and a military. It strongly praises industry and technology.
