What Transhumanism Stands For
Transhumanism holds that the human condition can and should be improved through technology: genetic engineering, life extension, brain and computer interfaces, cognitive enhancement and possibly artificial intelligence. Julian Huxley used the word in 1957, and the modern movement took shape from the 1980s with writers such as FM-2030, Max More, Nick Bostrom and the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+). Politically it ranges widely, but most transhumanists stress morphological freedom, the right to modify one's own body and mind. Compared with Technocracy, it is about what individuals may become, not about who governs. Compared with Liberalism, it pushes much harder on technology and treats bioconservative caution as an obstacle rather than a reasonable limit.
