What Left Accelerationism Stands For

The current took shape with the #Accelerate manifesto by Nick Srnicek and Alex Williams (2013) and their book Inventing the Future (2015). They argue that the left has retreated into folk politics, small local protests that cannot challenge a global economy, and should fight for a post-work society instead. Their core demands are full automation, a shorter working week, a universal basic income and a weaker work ethic. The ideas build on Marx's notes on machinery, and Aaron Bastani's Fully Automated Luxury Communism (2019) gave them a popular form. Unlike Nick Land's right-wing accelerationism, it wants technology steered by egalitarian aims. Compared with eco-socialism, it embraces technology; compared with transhumanism, it focuses on work and ownership rather than the body.

  • You score very high on Progressive and Secular and lean Globalist: you welcome rapid social change and reject both tradition and economic retreat behind national borders.
