What Anarcho-Egoism Stands For
Anarcho-egoism comes from Max Stirner's The Ego and Its Own (1844), which argued that the state, God, humanity, morality and even rights are 'spooks' that people serve instead of serving themselves. Stirner proposed a 'union of egoists' in place of society: temporary associations that people join only while they find them useful. His ideas later influenced Benjamin Tucker's individualist anarchists, Emma Goldman, the Italian illegalists and post-left anarchists such as Bob Black. Egoists reject both capitalism's sacred property and socialism's sacred collective. Compared with Anarcho-Capitalism, it denies natural rights and property as moral claims. Compared with Voluntaryism, it does not rest on a moral rule of nonaggression at all.
